Citroën Basalt Vs Tata Curvv – The rise of the SUV coupe?
A new segment is emerging and it revolves around the rise of the SUV coupe. This was started by the BMW X6 and now it has spread to the compact SUV segment. It’s a combination of coupe styling, ground clearance and SUV-like design.
The way the hood tapers is the design highlight here. Two new models, Tata Curvv and Citroën Basalt, will be launched this year. Both have similar design features but are also different in many ways.
Basalt is based on the C3 Aircross while Curvv is also based on the Nexon. The Basalt has a C3 Aircross-like front fascia with a large Citroën grille while the Curvv also gets a new Tata Motors look with full-width DRL daytime running lights plus a large grille with a pattern-like design.
While the Rear has a similar design, the Curvv has a full light bar and spoiler. Basalt gives a more boxy appearance with the same theme applied in the wheel arch design. While both have design strengths, practicality is maintained with well-maintained ground clearance.
Inside, both cars will have different looks as Tata has revealed the Curvv’s edge panel while the Basalt will also have one that looks similar to the C3 Aircross. Curvv will have features like 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, wireless charging, connected car technology, sunroof and many more. Basalt will have features like rear camera, automatic climate control and many more.
The Cuvv will get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with DCT and manual transmission, while there will be a 1.5-litre diesel engine plus a CNG version, to be launched later. Of course, the Curvv will also get an EV version. Meanwhile, the Basalt will have the same 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine as the C3 Aircross, while there will likely be an EV version. Although both cars have similar designs and different approaches, these two cars are a new addition as well as a new body style choice for compact SUV buyers.
